Zhihong Zhang joined the Climate Investment Funds in 2011 to manage the Clean Technology Fund (CTF) and the Scaling up Renewable Energy Program in Low Income Countries (SREP), with a combined portfolio of USD 6 billion in 46 countries. He has led the development of CTF and SREP investment strategies and operations policies and oversees pipelines management, results monitoring, and knowledge initiatives. From 2004 to 2011, he led the climate change focal area at the Global Environment Facility, and was extensively involved in the UN climate change negotiations on mitigation, finance, and technology transfer. In the early 1990s, Zhihong worked in the energy sector at the World Bank and later served as the Chief Technical Advisor at the UN Industrial Development Organization to manage energy efficiency projects in China. Zhihong holds a Ph.D. in Energy Management and Policy from the University of Pennsylvania.
