Research Institute for Applied Knowledge Processing (FAW/n)

Estelle Herlyn is the chief scientist of the Research Institute for Applied Knowledge Processing (FAW/n). At the same time, she is professor and scientific director of the Competence Centre for Sustainable Development at the FOM University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf. In her teaching and research, she deals with the responsibility of the private sector for sustainable development. In addition, questions on economic development and climate mitigation in a global perspective are a focus of her work. She is responsible for research projects that are run in cooperation with politics and business. In this context, she initiated the Multi-Stakeholder Initiative Development and Climate Alliance together with the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and GIZ. She works as an advisor for the United Nations Development Organization (UNIDO). She is a board member of the association Global Energy Solutions e.V., a member of the German Society of the Club of Rome, deputy chair of the board of trustees of the Foundation Senate of Economy and a member of the sustainability committee of the Stadtsparkasse Wuppertal. After studying business mathematics at TU Dortmund University, she worked for several years in various international companies (PwC, Ford, L’Oréal, HSBC) before completing a doctorate at RWTH Aachen University on issues of balanced income distribution as a crucial aspect of the social dimension of sustainability.
