Ambassador, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Republic of Korea
After joining the Foreign Ministry in 1979, Ambassador Cho spent most of his early years working on trade issues. He expanded his work to other areas, such as security and climate change during his foreign assignments to Belgium, the Central African Republic, Senegal, the US, the OECD and the UN. In 2008 he was appointed Ambassador for Energy and Resources and given responsibility for Korea’s energy diplomacy. In this capacity he also led the Korean negotiating team for the renewal of the Korea-US Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement. He then became Deputy Minister for Multilateral Affairs, still working on many nuclear issues, including the Nuclear Security Summit. While representing Korea to Austria and the international organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Cho served as President of the Governing Board of UNIDO and Chair of the Hague Code of Conduct against Ballistic Missile Proliferation in 2012. He is currently teaching international relations at Hankook University of Foreign Studies.
