Vienna’s way to climate neutrality (UIV Urban Innovation Vienna GmbH, City of Vienna)

Vienna’s path to climate neutrality builds on holistic strategies and already consists of a number of distinct policies and programmes as cornerstones. In times of growing challenges, we present a multi-faceted discussion on Vienna’s pioneering initiatives to switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. We will highlight the profound set of strategies and action plans combined with comprehensive programmes on the expansion of photovoltaics or the decarbonisation of the heating and cooling sector. In Vienna about 600,000 gas boilers, the majority individual boilers, will need to be replaced by 2040. We will also focus on the importance of raising awareness and providing advice and financial support to the citizens.

Our panel will not only offer practical insights into successful implementation strategies, but also initiate inspiring discussions about the role of cities in the global fight against the climate crisis. We are convinced that our contribution can provide valuable impulses for sustainable development and energy efficiency.
