Measuring Energy Access – Applying the Methodologies of the Global Tracking Framework in the Field: A Discussion on Monitoring Experience
Side Event: Monitoring Energy Access
Universal access to modern forms of energy is proposed to become one of the Sustainable Development Goals. Under the UN-Initiative SE4All, universal energy access by 2030 is already one of the three objectives. For a transparent and coherent tracking of the achievements under these globally set goals, a stringent, effective and practical monitoring system is needed to provide the public with credible and verifiable data.
Several donors have published their pledges towards the global energy access goal – new programmes are planned and will be implemented. But how do you attribute the impact of the various donors’ activities to the individual donors and implementers?
Main objective of the Side Event is to discuss how to harmonise programme-based monitoring systems with the Global Tracking Framework developed under SE4All and vice versa.
Participants will introduce methodological approaches and lessons-learnt from the field for various types of projects and programmes and deliberate on how to make them compatible. In addition, the crucial issue of data sources as well as capacity building for energy access monitoring will be discussed.
