Role of the municipal government in climate action: A discussion @Rathaus
The guided tour through the Vienna City Hall, organized by the City of Vienna in cooperation with UNIDO, shall give participants an insight at the heart of Vienna’s democracy. The Vienna City Hall is not only one of the most splendid amongst the numerous monumental buildings along the city – it is also the head office of Vienna’s municipal administration with more than 2000 people work in the building. The City of Vienna has the ambitious goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2040. Based on the Smart Climate City Strategy (Vienna’s umbrella strategy for sustainable city development) Vienna has worked out a Climate Roadmap bringing together the key levers, measures, and tools needed to achieve climate neutrality and climate resilience. At the municipal level, there are numerous approach points for an effective climate policy, such as mobility, housing and buildings, waste management, energy and heating etc.
Highlight of the guided tour will be a meeting with Councilor Stephan Auer-Stüger, deputy chairman of the City Council Committee for climate, environment, democracy and personnel. During this meeting, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, exchange opinions and enter into discussion on climate policy issues.
