WtE-Plant Pfaffenau
This event takes you on a tour to learn about the municipal solid waste management and a guided tour through the Waste to Energy plant in the 11th district of Vienna.
The Pfaffenau waste incineration plant in Simmering (11th district) was opened in September 2008. Since then, it has converted 250,000 tonnes of mixed waste (residual and bulky waste) into clean energy. The plant gets 200 deliveries of residual and bulky waste for thermal treatment daily. It consists of a grate stoker incinerator with multi-stage flue gas cleaning and wastewater treatment and an extraction back-pressure turbine for power and heat generation, connected to the district heating network. Before the tour, you will have the possibility to attend a presentation on municipal solid waste management, where you also have the possibility to ask all the questions you might have about this process. Then you will have a guided tour through the WtE-Plant to learn more about the underlying concept and see the working principle of the plant in real time.
