Launch of the Report (LeadIT, UNIDO)
The decarbonization of heavy industries like steel, cement and concrete is still not moving at the pace required to achieve the emission reductions needed by 2030 and 2050. While there are many cost effective solutions that can be readily deployed, some technologies are capital intensive and require a transformation of industrial processes to support the shift. UNIDO in collaboration with the Leadership Group for the Industry Transition conducted an analysis of the actions needed particularly within the G20 to drive an industrial transformation aligned with the goals of the Paris agreement. In this session, UNIDO and LeadIT will share the highlights of the report.
The session will then consider the latest findings by the OECD on financing industry decarbonization in emerging and developing countries and how to address the scarcity of financial and technical assistance offered by IFIs to heavy industry decarbonization in these regions.
